OUR HISTORY
![Founding fathers]()
2012 - COMPANY START
Our founders met in 2010 while working at Aarhus University. Combining expertise in assessment administration and pedagogy, they led a ministry-funded project that created DigEx, a prototype for digital exams. In 2012, they acquired the licence, hired three student developers, and evolved it into WISEflow. UNIwise launched soon after, earning Startup of the Year 2013, and began piloting WISEflow with Aarhus University and other Nordic institutions.![IMG_0549]()
2013 - CHALLENGES BEGIN TO MOUNT
After 18 months of development, funds were nearly gone in 2013. Then our landlord filed for bankruptcy.
With no office budget, the team moved into an abandoned building without heat or internet. That winter, we coded in hats and gloves, tethered to a single Android hotspot, and everyone agreed to cut salaries in half. Despite the cold and slow connection, no one ever lost faith in WISEflow.

2016 - OUR FIRST SUCCESSES
This belief was soon rewarded with contracts from Danish university colleges, business academies, and technical schools. By 2016, nearly half of Norway’s higher-education institutions were on board. As global interest in digital assessment grew, Steffen and Rasmus met with universities worldwide to explore how WISEflow could support their digital ambitions.![1000x485px office map]()
2021 - EXPANSION
By 2021, we had expanded with offices in Denmark, Norway, the UK, and Germany to provide local expertise. We partner with institutions in 14 countries and as that number grows, we remain committed to leading and supporting higher education in transforming assessment practices.![Skærmbillede 2026-01-07 kl. 15.20.05]()
2022 - CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF IMPACT
From a cross-university project at Aarhus University to supporting higher education across Europe and beyond, UNIwise has spent a decade helping institutions transform digital assessment.![M-RING-ORANGE-NAVY-FILL]()
2023 - PARTNERING WITH MONTERRO FOR GROWTH
UNIwise partnered with Nordic software investor Monterro to strengthen WISEflow, enhance customer support, and scale across Europe. This partnership equips us to deliver even greater impact for higher education while continuing our journey of innovation and expansion.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We envision a world where technology empowers higher education to deliver better, fairer, and more authentic assessments also helping institutions navigate digitisation and qualify students for life beyond university.
We operate as a long‑term strategic partner—not just a vendor. Our approach is built on shared goals, open dialogue, and co‑creation with universities across Europe. Many of our features and developments are shaped directly by our partner institutions.
UNIwise has offices in Aarhus (HQ), Manchester, Skien, and Hamburg, allowing us to support institutions with local experts while operating as a unified European organisation.
UNIwise began at Aarhus University, where our founders created an early prototype for digital exams through a ministry-funded project. In 2012, they launched UNIwise and transformed the prototype into WISEflow, which has since grown into one of Europe’s leading digital assessment platforms.
We unite academics and technologists to design solutions co‑created with universities. Everything we build aims to support institutional strategy, quality assurance, and real learning outcomes, not just digitalising old processes. Our long‑term partnerships and transparency set us apart in the sector.
Our platforms are developed with privacy-by-design principles and meet strict European data protection requirements. We prioritise GDPR compliance, accessibility, uptime reliability, and transparent governance, giving institutions confidence in high‑stakes moments.
