Masterclass for International Multimedia Students
On Tuesday the 17th of September, UNIwise hosted a 3-hour Masterclass for international students from Aarhus Business Academy.
Here at UNIwise, one of our key values is “Learning is fundamental.” So, when we were offered the opportunity to show 10 students what their future career might look like, it was an obvious yes from our side. And, as nominees for the “Internationalisation" category of the SME Inspiration Awards 2024, we saw it as a bonus that the students in question were international – from Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Japan, Honduras, Romania, Finland and Italy.
The first half of the program was comprised of talks about the journey that UNIwise has been on, from the company’s early days when our founders worked in a building with no heating – sharing only one cellphone’s 4G connection in the office. Flashforward to 2024, and we have 70 colleagues working across multiple countries, with offices in the UK, Germany and Egypt - as well as our Danish headquarters. We spoke about some of the challenges faced when developing enterprise grade software and delved into how to effectively spread work across multiple teams.
The latter part of the Masterclass was focused on practical exercises, such as guaranteeing accessibility in UI design, in a workshop hosted by our Product Design lead, Angelina and our Frontend Tech lead, Rimon. We ended the session having lunch in the canteen, and it was great to see the conversation flourishing around the table.
Oh, and what would a visit to UNIwise be without a game of Foosball before our attendees left?
Rasmus Blok, founder and Chief Product Officer at UNIwise, commented:
“As a founder of an assessment platform targeted towards higher education, and as a long-time researcher and teacher at universities myself, I take great pride and joy in introducing and catering for international interns at my company. This is a way to pay back, progress internationalisation and help each individual student on their own meaningful journey towards employment in their later life”
Sune Kjærgård, Head of Product Development and the main driver for the Masterclass, had this to say:
“International students and workers are an underestimated resource in most Danish companies, and I love working with them! Think about it, they have already shown a great amount of resourcefulness by tearing up their roots and moving to a completely new country far from home, starting a new life there. Why wouldn’t you want some of that drive and resourcefulness at your company?
