Annual Survey October 2025

Inside the Minds of Higher Ed: The 2025 assessment outlook

What 64 higher education professionals say about the state of digital assessment.

This is relevant to you because:

  • You want sector benchmarks on digital assessment adoption rather than anecdote from your own institution.
  • You're building a business case and need evidence on what drives and blocks adoption.
  • You want to know how your peers rate exam integrity, accessibility and support quality.
  • You're assessing whether STEM subjects remain underserved by the digital assessment platforms available today.

Abstract

UNIwise's 2025 annual survey draws on 64 responses from higher education professionals across Europe, weighted towards Denmark, Norway and the UK, and spanning IT, exam administration, academic and leadership roles.

The findings show digital assessment has become standard practice rather than an experiment. Eighty percent engage with digital exams frequently or always, 62% find them easy to run, and 79% would recommend their current platform. Confidence in integrity sits at 70%, though respondents note that AI raises new questions. Administrative efficiency, flexibility and better feedback drive adoption, while cheating concerns, platform gaps, resistance to change and weak STEM support hold it back.
